Biography

Karen Ramsey brings two decades of construction experience to her role as Construction Manager at Old Town Design Build, along with a wealth of experience and a passion for sustainable building practices. Over the course of her career, Karen has worked in just about every role in construction from accounts payable to project coordination and eventually superintendent, project manager, and estimator roles. Her move from North Carolina to Colorado marked a shift towards commercial construction, where she worked with ECI Construction Services and Dome Construction, gaining valuable experience in estimating and project management.

In 2014, Karen joined Saunders Construction as an estimator, before launching her own construction consulting business in 2019. Her business focused on project management and pre-construction services, notably collaborating with sustainable and green construction companies in Boulder, Colorado.

Karen’s career is underscored by a commitment to sustainability and community impact. She thrives on renovating old houses, cherishing the preservation of their character and reducing the environmental footprint of construction. Her projects have been featured in Luxe Magazine and Boulder Lifestyle, highlighting her innovative approach and dedication to quality craftsmanship.

In joining Old Town Design Build, Karen was drawn by the company’s dedication to green building practices and community involvement in Fort Collins. Reflecting on her career, she emphasizes the importance of relationship building and collaborative teamwork in achieving successful project outcomes.

“I really appreciate the skill set that our subcontractors bring. Each house is being built by hundreds of skilled people by hand, and each team member is bringing their expertise to improve the outcome of the job. It’s really cool to bring all that expertise together for the build.”

Karen finds deep personal fulfillment in her work, recognizing the craftsmanship and dedication of the whole team in bringing a client’s vision for their home to life.

Outside of work, Karen enjoys a balanced lifestyle that includes yoga, meditation, gardening, and spending time with her three children. Her certification as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor underscores her holistic approach to home construction, integrating wellness principles into her projects.

Favorite Design Style:  Karen’s favorite homes reflect her appreciation for craftsmanship and functionality, blending modern elements with natural materials and vibrant accents. She is passionate about creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also sustainable and tailored to the needs of homeowners.
